

The malware didn't affect the sexbots - as designed, it jumped from them, but instead of only jumping to the "freight bots" as it was supposed to, it jumped to the SecUnits as well. A technician didn't wait for that and uploaded the "patch" to them anyway (human error, as our Murderbot would point out). The sexbots knew that the "software patch" wasn't to be uploaded until security okayed it. It was designed to shut down the freight bots, so the other company can get its ore (stuff?) to market first. (view spoiler) [ seems that a rival mining company sent some malware masquerading as a software patch to the Ganaka Pit sexbots, with the intention of having it ultimately uploaded to the "freight" bots (who transport whatever it is they were mining).
